Support World AIDS Day

Today, December 1st, is World AIDS Day, and today over 4,000 people in Africa will die of AIDS, just as they do every day. 2008 marks the 20th anniversary of World AIDS Day.

As Russ says, AIDS is a human rights issue in addition to a medical and humanitarian issue. The right to a decent standard of living is being denied to millions of Africans despite the many medical advances in recent years. In plain and simple terms, those medical advances are not making their way to Africa.

Various organizations are raising money to bring the needed medications to Africa. You can donate through The Global Fund or NAT.org.

The World AIDS Day official website lists other ways to get involved such as selling red ribbons and teaching about AIDS in schools. Also, posters can be downloaded at the World AIDS Campaign’s website.
