Nukanti Foundation for Children is an independent international non-profit organization, devoted to investing in education, healing and hope for children, particularly in communities devastated by violence, poverty and armed conflict.
Our projects focus on assisting and transforming the lives of some of the most disadvantaged, disenfranchised and socially excluded children affected by various forms of conflict or crisis be it war, extreme poverty, hunger, illness, persecution, or neglect through diverse education programs, especially through the Arts.
The name Nukanti meaning \"us\" in the language of the Ingas of the Colombian Amazon was chosen to represent the power we all have within us to change the fate of many disadvantaged children and youth all over the world.
NFC currently supports projects in the most impoverished regions of Colombia plagued with violence, drugs and armed forces looking to recruit children as soldiers. Although our first projects are in Colombia, we are not limited to that region and our work will be implemented in as many countries as possible.
The projects use the arts as therapy for children (through photography, music, capoeira, dance and fine arts) who have experienced extreme violence such as former child soldiers or displaced children and offers them an alternative to fighting and arms as well as reassures their attendance and performance level in school.
We invite you to view our projects, meet the children we work with and to find out how you can get involved and help us to continue our good work!
How to get involved
We are currently looking for volunteers for our programs, across the world to arrange fundraising and other events. NFC is a small organization so whether working in the USA or abroad you will be part of a team of supportive, like-minded, committed people where your contribution will make a real impact.
For FOTOVIVA, our photography project, we are always looking for camcorders and/or cameras for the children. If you have some functioning that you do not use anymore, we would love to put it to work! Just contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org or visit us at www.nukantifoundation.org.
