About:
The mission of School on Wheels is the enhancement of educational opportunities for homeless children from kindergarten through twelfth grade.
Our goal is to shrink the gaps in the education of these children and provide them with the highest education possible. We do this by offering:
One-on-one tutoring
Backpacks and school supplies
A toll-free number to keep in touch with us (800-923-1100)
Assistance in entering school
Help in locating lost records
Parent guidance in educational matters for their children.
How to become involved:
School on Wheels would not exist without the dedicated people who volunteer their time and services. They come from all walks of life, but they have one thing in common: they are dedicated to providing a quality education to a homeless child. Schools on Wheels’ volunteers are caring individuals from all professions, ages and ethnic backgrounds who are willing to tutor a homeless child for a minimum of one hour per week.
Our tutors not only assist children in their reading and schoolwork, but they can also connect parents to one of our two main offices where they receive help in filling out the necessary paperwork for school. School on Wheels also assists parents in gathering records such as birth certificates, immunization records and transfer papers from previous schools.
