ABOUT US:
EWOW was founded to counteract the loss of ongoing arts education in public schools. Many children have little chance to learn about the arts--let alone develop their talent--yet studies show how vital arts education is to our children and their future. We find children with a passion or talent for art and engage them in an arts experience. The children are connected with an artist who both instructs and mentors. They learn the basics of photography, the history or background of their subject, and then photograph their subject from their point of view, sharing the way they see things.
Two photographs are selected from each child and printed to canvas, and the program culminates in a gallery exhibit and silent auction of the children's artwork. The gallery exhibits are designed to create a background environment that stimulates emotion and grabs attention, while allowing the children to interact with the public. All the auction proceeds go back to the children in the form of a scholarship, funding for additional arts education, a camera or gear, or other art-related items. Whether capturing a moment of their lives, an ordinary object, or a world-famous landmark, children involved with Eyes Wide Open Worldwide develop a deeper passion for the arts, increase their confidence, feel a sense of accomplishment, and find hope for their future.
MISSION:
Eyes Wide Open Worldwide's (EWOW) mission is to inspire youth to develop a passion for the arts and foster their creativity, through photography.
PURPOSE:
To connect artists and children in a mentoring relationship, teach children how to use photographic equipment, and hold gallery events where children display their work to the community.
Since our inception in 2005 we have worked with over 50 children, held three exhibits and raised over $10,000.00 with 100% of the proceeds being returned to the children in the form of an arts education scholarship, cameras or other art related items.
EWOW has been a representative of The Angkor Photography Festival in 2006 & 2007in Siem Reap, Cambodia and will be at the 2008 CONTACT photography festival in Toronto, Canada
How to become involved:
STREET TEAM
As a new non-profit organization we are looking for people who can help spread the mission and gain exposure for our organization through magazine solicitation, blogs any type of humanitarian or photography publication possible. It takes a lot of money to run our organization and we need to find local, national and international sponsorship.
PHOTOGRAPHERS & PROJECTS
Always looking for professional photographers and new projects for mentoring children. When setting up a new project we try to partner with another NPO or organization so that we may submit a budget and work together to find the funding needed for the project.
