Empowerment International
Street children generally come from poor families. They cannot attend school even where public education is free due to lack of funds for mandatory uniforms and school supplies. They also lack emotional support from their families. Instead of being educated, they are sent out to work on the streets selling fruits, vegetables, and trinkets.
Empowerment International reverses this trend by working with the children and their families to enable them to attend school. We provide financial and emotional support.
Giving is Receiving
Just ask Don Vacca, volunteer for Empowerment International...if you even need to ask! His smile tells all.
In my Eyes are Hope
Jose is one of Empowerment International's 270 lucky children that have become participants in the program. He is hopeful that one day he will be able to become a doctor. Lofty goal for a young boy in a barrio n Nicaragua but dreams can come true.
Rural Nicaraguan Child
In rural Nicaragua, school is even more inaccessible. Empowerment International has begun working in a rural community in 2008.
Look Mom, I CAN count!
Empowerment International works with not just students in Nicaragua but also their parents. Getting the parents involved and supportive of their child's education is one key to success in completing at least primary school (in a nation where only 50% of the enrolled 1st graders complete 5th grate)
Photographer in Training
Colochon is on one of our most talented student photographers. The program and access to cameras has brought this very at risk teen to a less risky future. check out his and other students work on flickr:

Smile of Hope
Ramon is hoping to particpate in our program for 2008. We hope he can and are hoping to collect funds for the addition of more applicants. We have 280 kids waiting to particpate. It costs $100 a year to sponsor a child. http://www.empowermentinternational.org
Inbetween the Lines
A new gate was creatively built on Jose's home. His home is made of plastic. Jose is in our program and just finished Kindergarten.
Simple Things = Pleasure
Juan is so happy during his Kindergarten graduaton party. A pinata, a snack and a few games can bring joy to those who have so little.
Caught!
So I was caught taking this shot. www.empowermentinternaitonal.org
