I took this portrait of a gipsy boy during my visit in Ocna Mures - a town in Romania. The purpose of my visit was to document the aftermath of the sinking of a shopping centre in the centre of the town.

I visited this woman's simple store and in back she sat on the ground creating with skill hands these beautiful pots. Her face was humble and full of joy. I was moved in deep respect for her imagination and creativity.

The 2011 drought in Texas is making history. From LCRA.org, "The 11 months from October 2010 through August 2011 have been the driest for that 11-month period in Texas since 1895, when the state began keeping rainfall records. This summer in Texas has been the hottest in the country's history, according to the National Weather Service."

If it wasn't evident before that water is a luxury that we shouldn't take for granted than it certainly should be now.

Why is this child happy? She isn't living on the streets anymore.

According to the Austin/Travis County Ending Community Homelessness Coalition there are more than 500 homeless families in Austin and 90% of those are headed up by single mothers. Most of these women have a limited education and have suffered some form of abuse.
